Volunteer Guidelines

H. E. Corley and Lexington-Richland Five is very fortunate to have caring adults in our community who are willing to volunteer their time with our students. Student safety is a top concern for the district; therefore, we have implemented new screening procedures for volunteers in our schools. Volunteers who work closely with students will be required to have a SLED background check and a sex offender screening.

There are four levels that reflect a volunteer’s contact with students.

Level One - General volunteers - does not require volunteer application or background check.

Level Two - Volunteers who meet regularly with students in the school setting and are supervised by school personnel. These volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Application and consent to a sex offender’s check.

Level Three - Volunteers who have personal direct one-on-one contact with students are required to complete a Volunteer Application and consent to a background check and sex offender check.

Level Four - Mentors/Tutors are required to complete a Volunteer Application and consent to a background check and sex offender check.

  • Volunteers should obtain permission to visit other classrooms, students or teachers while working in schools.
  • Volunteers should dress appropriately for the school setting.
